Obituary

GORHAM -- Bruce Harry Dunbar, age 84, went to heaven on September 15, 2023 at his home after a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease.

Bruce was born in Portland, Maine on May 10, 1939, the son of the late Maurice and Augusta (Crossman) Dunbar. After graduating from Portland High School in 1957, Bruce enlisted in the army to complete six months of active duty. For the next six years, he served in the National Guard. Bruce went to work for Union Mutual Life Insurance Company where he met his wife Kathryn Manzo. They married in 1960 and had four children.

Bruce worked at Canal Bank and became a vice-president of computer operations. In 1976 he moved to Lenox, Massachusetts to attend Stevens School of the Bible. He graduated in 1979 and worked as the financial controller for the Bible Speaks until 1987, when he returned to Maine and worked for L.L. Bean until he retired in 2008 . Bruce earned a Bachelor's degree from Liberty University and was ordained a pastor by Grace Bible Church of Gorham, Maine, where he ministered for decades until Parkinson’s disease made that no longer possible.

Bruce loved sports and was a fan of the Boston sports teams and any team that his children and grandchildren played for. He enjoyed good food, traveling, reading, music, church ministry, and spending time with his wife and family. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a playful side.

Bruce is survived by his beloved wife Kathryn “Kay” (Manzo) Dunbar; his children Daniel Dunbar of Seoul, South Korea; Timothy Dunbar and his wife Jessica of Limerick; Beth (Dunbar) Hancock and her husband Kevin of Gorham; and Douglas Dunbar and his wife Michelle of Joppa, Maryland; nine grandchildren — Shane, Cameron, Kayla, Austin, Christian, Noah, Colby, Brian, and Cooper; and two great-grandchildren, Wesley and Theo.

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday at 1 PM at Grace Bible Church, 74 Deering Road, Gorham. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Samaritan’s Purse International Relief (www.samaritanspurse.org) to help provide physical and spiritual aid to hurting people around the world.
