Clay Harold McLaughlin – son, brother, and friend – passed away quietly at St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo, CA in the early morning hours of September 10th, 2023. His family is greatly saddened by his loss. Born on May 20, 1957, to Bea and Keith McLaughlin, Clay was a lifelong resident of Ventura, CA. A graduate of Ventura High School class of 1975, Clay worked in local industry for the better part of 30 years before the onset of debilitating diabetic neuropathy forced an early medical retirement. Clay was a quiet, gentle, and highly intelligent soul, well known and remembered for his love of family and his simple life. Clay rarely passed up an opportunity to spend time with family, be it a simple dinner, a house boating vacation, a family reunion, or cross-country train travel. Clay was also known for his love of trains. An avid model railroader until his deteriorating health limited his activities, Clay always enjoyed looking for and watching trains wherever he went. The family thanks the Lexington Assisted Living Facility in Ventura and Sally’s Residential Care Home in Camarillo for keeping Clay safe and comfortable over the last years of his life. Their kindness and attention are so very much appreciated.
Clay is survived by his sisters Janice Sveiven and Linda Tracy of Ventura, and brother Rich McLaughlin of Portola, CA, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins around the country. Clay was predeceased by his father Harold Keith McLaughlin, his mother Beatrice McLaughlin, and sister Sharon Russell. The family will hold a private graveside service at some future date. Our brother will be sorely missed.
Arrangements are under the direction of the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, Ventura.
