Beverly Ann Hooks, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2023, at the age of 58, in Boston, Massachusetts. She was born on June 29, 1965, in Newark, New Jersey, to Elizia Bodison and Mercy Jimmy Rivers. Beverly was a remarkable woman with a strong voice and a kind heart.
Beverly, also known as Bev, was a little woman with a big voice that demanded to be heard. She was assertive and good-hearted, always pointing others in a positive direction. Bev was a loving and devoted mother figure to her daughter, Briana Courtney Hooks, whom she raised as her own. She taught her daughter valuable life skills such as cooking, cleaning, and the importance of listening. Despite being the shortest person in the house, Bev had the largest vocals, and her heavenly tenor voice would captivate those around her.
In addition to her role as a mother, Beverly was a talented singer. Whenever someone hit an off-key, she would bring it back with her melodious voice. She also managed her household with the same level of precision and care as her grandmother, ensuring everything was clean, organized, and prompt. Briana and her loved sitting around the dinner table, sharing stories of their day and finding resolution in each other's company.
Beverly is survived by her loving husband, James Allen Hooks, her two brothers, Marcus and Todd Bodison, her uncle Myles Bodison, her two sons, Shawn (S. Dot) and Anthony (Poppy) Bodison, her stepson Officer Jason Rashaun Villanueva, her three stepdaughters, Lewanda Monique Eliot, Latrice Nicole Tyler-Johnson, and Briana Courtney Hooks, eight grandchildren, and a host of friends and family who adored her dearly. Throughout the years, Beverly maintained regular contact with all those she loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elizia Bodison and Marcy Jimmy Rivers, as well as her aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Beverly attended Vineland High School in Vineland, New Jersey, where she received her education. She later went on to establish her own business, Gammy's Professional Cleaning Service, where she served as the proud owner.
Beverly was a member of the 2nd Baptist Church located at 14 Hammond St. Worcester, MA 01610, where she found solace and community.
In her free time, Beverly enjoyed traveling, exploring new places, and experiencing different cultures.

Beverly Ann Hooks will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love, strength, and kindness will forever be cherished. May she rest in peace.
