Joel Lee (Tibbetts) Bennett Beaty

Joel Lee (Tibbetts) Bennett Beaty, 93, passed away on September 3, 2023 at Sunrise Assisted Living Center Carmel, IN following an extended illness.
She was born on July 22, 1930 in Union City, IN to Walter Scott and Dessa Zima (Longenecker) Tibbetts. She graduated from Union City West High School and went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree from Stephens College, in Columbia, MO, where she belonged to the Chi Omega Sorority. She also studied at Butler University and later earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Ball State University.
Joel was primarily a homemaker, a devoted and hardworking wife and mother of four. She was an exceptional cook, excellent seamstress and an avid bridge player. Her young family moved from Union City, IN to Anderson, IN in 1956 where she resided until 1989. She was active with Anderson First United Methodist Church, and later, Mountain View United Methodist Church in Boulder, Colorado where she held several leadership positions including President of United Methodists Women, Executive Committee, Chair of Social Action Committee, and Secretary of the Executive Board. She was a former member of PEO, Tri Kappa Sorority, The Anderson Art Center, Anderson County Club and a Service Unit volunteer with Girl Scouts USA. She was a teacher for several years at East Elementary School in Pendleton, IN.
In 1989 she married David A Beaty and moved to Boulder, Colorado where she lived until after his passing. She then returned to Indiana in late July, 2023.
She is survived by her four children, John (Pam) Bennett of Greenfield, IN, Jim (Karen) Bennett, Jane Bennett McDowell of Indianapolis, IN, and Jenny (Dan) Dodge of El Paso, TX; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and three stepchildren and their families who reside in Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David A. Beaty; her previous husband and father of her children, Elvin L. "Jack" Bennett; a sister, Helen Adean Tritt; and three brothers, 1st Lt. Bob Tibbetts Jr., Philip J. Tibbetts C.B., and James Franklin Tibbetts.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 2, 2023 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 515 W. Oak Street, Union City, IN with Pastor Scott Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Union City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1:00pm-2:00pm on Monday, October 2, 2023 at the church.
