Grace M. McDonnell, 95

Grace M. (McHugh) McDonnell, age 95, a resident of the Branches in North Attleboro, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, September 13, 2023. She was the beloved wife of the late John J. McDonnell, Sr., to whom she was wed for thirty-eight years at the time of his death on December 25, 1988.
Born in Charlestown, MA on August 17, 1928, she was a loving daughter of the late William T. and Mary B. (O’Donnell) McHugh.
Grace grew up and was educated in the Brighton neighborhood of Boston. She was a dedicated homemaker to her adoring family and prior to retiring worked for thirty-five at the New England Telephone Company, retiring as an Administrative Assistant.
Grace’s family was always the focal point of her life and the pleasure she received in the presence of her grandchildren and great grandchildren was second-to none. She loved playing bingo, shopping at Macy’s and when younger was an avid gardener and enjoyed riding bikes. She had made her home at the Branches of North Attleboro for the past four years and previously resided in Florida and Scituate.
She is survived by her devoted children: Carol A. White of Mansfield, John J. McDonnell, Jr. of Scituate and Maureen Wilkinson of Vermont. She was the cherished grandmother of Shannon, Sherry, Sean, John, Kevin, Gerald, Scott, Patrick and Courtney. She was the dear sister of Carol Kelly of Burlington, Maureen Considine of Brighton and was predeceased by eight siblings.
She is also survived by her treasured ten great grandchildren, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 19th at 10:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt Street (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:30 P.M.
Visitation will be held prior to the Funeral Mass on Tuesday morning from 8:30-9:30 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.
