Virgilio Hernandez, Sr., 84, graduated with the Lord on Saturday, September 9th in UMASS Memorial Medical Center – University Campus. He leaves his wife of 42 years, Elba (Lopez) Hernandez; three sons, Tony Hernandez and his wife, Carmen Salazar, Virgilio Hernandez, Jr. and his wife, Marilyn Rodriguez all of Worcester, and David Hernandez and his wife, Lucy of New Jersey; five daughters, Maria Rivera, Noemi Hernandez, Elbin Hernandez, Nelly Hernandez, and Nancy Hernandez all of Worcester; three brothers, Mario Hernandez, Antonio Hernandez, and Lucas Mercedes all of Worcester; three sisters, Susan Mercedes, Tatica Hernandez, and Juana Hernandez all of Worcester; 17 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was born in Arenoso, Dominican Republic the son of Francisco Mercedes and Ramona Sanchez. Virgilio was a Man of the Lord and was a member of International Ministry Movement of Glory. He owned and operated Caribe Market, a local supermarket for many years. Virgilio was well known through out the Worcester community. He was a caring and loving man who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Virgilio’s favorite pastime was playing dominoes.
Calling hours are Monday, September 18th from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 19th at 12:15 in Notre Dame Mausoleum, 162 Webster Street, Worcester. Please go directly to the cemetery in the front chapel at the mausoleum.
