Obituary

Albert Thomas “Al” Lyons, of Middleborough died suddenly on September 12 at home doing what he loved, gardening.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1944, fourth child of the late Albert R. Lyons and Dorothy M. (Clark) Lyons.

Al received his Associate Degree in Fire Science from Massasoit Community College in 1981. Al began his career as an Abington Firefighter in 1966 and studied to become an EMT. He was ultimately promoted to Captain and retired in 1998.

Al could always be found working; both at his children’s homes and his own home building decks, siding houses, taking down trees or whatever needed to be done. During his tenure as a Firefighter/EMT he was Local 2080 Vice-President and President. He raised monies with his fellow firefighters for muscular dystrophy, and participated for many years in Abington’s Relay for Life. He also found pleasure volunteering at the Whitman VFW as a cook for various events.

Al was the loving husband of Janice M. Lyons, devoted father of Sheila Kearns and her husband Thomas, Kim Crandell and her husband Bill, Cherie Buckminster and her husband Scott, Sean Donovan and his wife Vickie, Shelley Papadopoulos and her husband Nick, adored Papa of Kaylee Roupa and her husband Zack, Kaitlyn Kearns, Kyria and Corey Sanchez, Ariana “Ari” Sabbag and Eli Papadopoulos. He was the brother of the predeceased Ella “Tootsie” MacKenzie, Francis “Frank” Lyons, and Joseph “Joe” Lyons. He leaves behind his sisters, Annette Langley, Judy Brophy, Heidi DePasqua and brother Bruce Lyons along
with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Family and friend are invited to attend his visiting hours Sunday September 17, from 2:00-5:00 PM, with a service to follow at 5:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org or a tree can be planted in remembrance of Al at A Living Tribute at www.alivingtribute.org
