Claire D. Gormly, RN, 94, died Monday, September 11, 2023 at Stillwater Nursing Home in Smithfield. She was the widow of Matthew L. Gormly who died in December 2006.
Claire was born in Providence to her parents, Ralph and Blanche (Houle) DeMagistris . She had most recently lived in Scituate with her daughter. She had previously lived in Providence since 1961.
She received her LPN from RI School of Practical Nursing in 1972 and her RN in 1977 after graduating from Community College of RI. She worked at Eleanor Slader Hospital in Cranston for 14 years before retiring in 1994. She had also worked at Roger Williams Medical Center in Providence. She was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Thomas Church.
She belonged to the Smithfield Senior center and enjoyed being on the bowling and bocce teams for several years and taking day trips with The Smithfield Seniors. She also enjoyed playing the organ and took lessons for many years. She liked to travel with her husband, Matthew and spending time and caring for grandchildren. She had a funny sense of humor and often made people laugh.
She is survived by her children: Patricia C. Jackson of Scituate, Michael L. Gormly of East Providence, Paul M. Gormly of Warwick, her four grandchildren: Christina, Kelly, Tyler and Ashley and four great grandchildren: Matthew, Jackson, Jace and Arya. She was the sister of Alfred L. DeMagistris of Providence, and the late Camille A. Ferri, Frank C., Louise A., Ralph J., Robert L., J. William, Thomas A., Leonard F. and David A. DeMagistris.
Her funeral will be held Tuesday, September 19th at 10am from the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in St. Thomas Church, 65 Fruit Hill Avenue, Providence. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. Visitation will be Monday evening 4-7pm.
