FRIAR Elizabeth H. “Betty” of Needham, formerly of Brookline, passed away September 7, 2023. Beloved daughter of the late John H. and Ellen B. (Irwin) Friar. Sister of Evelyn A. Joyce and her husband the late James M. of Holbrook. Aunt of Dorothy Sorocco and her husband James of Halifax, Carol M. Micciche and her husband Michael of Holbrook, John F. Joyce and his wife Karen of Marshfield, Evelyn A. DeMartino and her husband Michael of Massapequa, NY., and the late James M. Joyce Jr. Great aunt of Michael, John, James, Kaleigh, Grace, Joseph, Sophia, and Ava. Great great aunt of Anthony and Nicholas.
Betty was a retired secretary for the Brookline Fire Dept. for 50 years. Member of AFSCME Local #1358. She was an avid Red Sox Fan and season ticket holder.
The family would like to thank the many home health care givers and also the Allerton House of Weymouth and NVNA Hospice of Norwell.
Visitation at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home 1305 Highland Ave. Needham, Friday, September 15th from 9:30am - 10:30am. Followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Joseph’s Church, Needham at 11am. Relatives & friends kindly invited. Interment Walnut Hill Cemetery, Brookline.
