Nicholas J. O’Shaughnessy, M.D., age 77, of Winchester, MA (formerly of Fox Chase, Philadelphia, PA) passed away on September 6, 2023. He was the son of the late Nicholas J. and Margaret C. (Kelly) O’Shaughnessy.
Nick attended St. Cecilia Elementary School, graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School and received his AB from the University of Pennsylvania. Nick then attended Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia and completed his residency at Bryn Mawr Hospital, Bryn Mawr, PA.
Dr. O’Shaughnessy served as a medical officer in the Navy during the Vietnam War, then worked as an emergency room physician in various hospitals in the Massachusetts area including the US Public Health Service Hospital, Lowell General Hospital, and Brockton Hospital. In his later years, he was a locum tenens doctor in several states across the country.
In his spare time he was a prolific reader, enjoying books on almost any subject, but particularly military history.
Nicholas is lovingly survived by his sisters: Sheila O’Shaughnessy (James Weisberg) of Merion Station, PA and Eileen O’Shaughnessy of Philadelphia, PA; nieces Tara and Caitlin, and nephew, William.
A Funeral Service will be held at Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Friday, September 22, 2023 at 10AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial is private.
