Dennis E. Kane, a lifelong resident of Charlestown and a proud Townie, entered into eternal life on Saturday, September 9, 2023, in South Boston. He was 76 years of age.
Dennis was born in Boston on May 18, 1947, a son of the late Martin F. Kane and Helen M. (Keefe) Kane. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated at St. Francis De Sales Parochial School and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1965. Dennis worked for the City of Boston, Boston Water and Sewer as a Construction Inspector and retired following 36 years of dedicated employment. Dennis was a member of Bunker Hill Council # 62, Knights of Columbus, The Halligan Club and The Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association. Dennis enjoyed golfing and spending his winter months in St. Pete's Beach, Florida with his beloved wife Joan who dedicated her love and life to Dennis throughout these last 6 years of his illness. Family was paramount in Dennis's life and he enjoyed all the special moments he shared with his wife and children especially his grandchildren where he enjoyed all their sporting events and was so very proud of each one of their accomplishments.
Dennis is the beloved husband of 53 years to Joan M. (Devlin) Kane. He is the devoted father of Boston Firefighter Dennis M. Kane and Allison Grealy and her husband Dedham Fire Department Lieutenant Michael Grealy. He is the loving Grumpy to Boston Police Officer Devlin Foley, Boston Firefighter Kieran Foley, Brighid Foley, Saoirse Kane, Deirdre Grealy, Lieutenant Thomas Grealy USMC and Alanna Grealy. He is the dear brother of Geraldine Fasy, Jimmy Kane and the late Thomas Pynn and his surviving wife Helen, Martin Kane Jr. and his surviving wife Debbie and Catherine Judge and her surviving husband Bruce. He is the dear brother-in-law of Jack and Dee Devlin, Tom and Laura Devlin, Kathy and Jim Charbonnier, Jimmy Devlin, Janice Devlin and the late Mary Devlin and her surviving husband Leo McGonagle. He is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Dennis's Funeral on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. His burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. His visiting hours will be on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, from 4 to 7 P.M. in the funeral home.
