Jessica Jones Dumas, 48 of Worcester, passed away on Thursday August 24th, 2023 after a long and courageous battle with heart disease.
She is survived by her children, GinaMarie Dumas and her partner Anthony Wilson and their daughter Ariella Wilson all of Spencer, Delores Anna Picard and her partner Nathan Sjoberg of Grafton, sister Hillary Ann Hickman and her husband Joseph and their daughter Josette Elizabeth Lavallee all of Pueblo, Colorado, and her partner Robert Tetreault of Worcester.
Jessica is also survived by her beloved uncle and aunt, Michael Jones and Sheila Jones of Maine and their children Julie Flaherty and her husband Tom of Northbridge, Kristine Jones of Millbury, Daniel Jones and his wife Kelly of Millbury, who were as close as siblings to Jessica, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Jessica was born in Worcester and is the daughter of the late Christine Paula Dumas and Edward Russell of Shrewsbury. Jessica was proudly adopted at the age of 10 by the late Robert A. Dumas Jr. who took her under his wing until his passing.
Jessica began working as a floral designer at the age of sixteen in addition to waitressing at several local restaurants. She often spoke of fond memories of the former Blue Jay Restaurant in Sutton where she worked with her lifelong friend Cherish Pavoni Gould. Jessica’s passion for floristry was a significant part of her bliss. As a young lady, she spent every season nurturing food crops, perennial gardens, and a variety of yard animals.
Jessica had a passion for baton twirling. She used her experience as a former Douglas Marching Band majorette to form Revolution Twirlers, a girls twirling group, which marched in Worcester. She loved softball which she played in Douglas and during her time at Blackstone Valley Tech. Jessica participated in the Graphic Arts department at BVT and had many humorous tales of her time here. She prided herself for her artistic talents, specifically her photography and abstract painting. She was a highly sensitive woman who would often find the quiet retreat of the woods or the ebbs and flows of the ocean to rejuvenate and inspire her. She also had an eye for antiques and could never resist a bargain, a true Jones.
She devoted her life to those she loved, and was proud to do so. She often sacrificed her own personal and professional advancements in order to elevate those around her. She did not have much, but what she had she shared freely. Aiding in the personal success of her children, granddaughter, sister and niece brought her joy. Her sassiness, depth and even darkness cultivated meaningful connections throughout her lifetime. She lifted us all with her love.
