John F. Lonergan, 75

John F. Lonergan, age 75, of Mansfield, passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Dianne M. (Kirker) Lonergan, to whom he was wed on September 25, 1971.
Born in Lewiston, Maine on August 24, 1948, he was a loving son of the late Thomas W. and Irene Y. (Giguere) Lonergan.
John grew up in Lewiston, Maine and as a teenager his family moved to Massachusetts, settling in Arlington. He graduated from Arlington High School and later proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Following four years of faithful service, he was honorably discharged on April 25, 1972 with the rank of ADJ3.
A resident of Mansfield for over thirty-five years, Mr. Lonergan was employed for over twenty-five years as a Maintenance Mechanic for USA Today, prior to retiring.
John loved spending time with his adoring family and fellow comrades at the Plainville American Legion. He was skilled in the Martial Arts of Krav Maga and was proud of earning his Black Belt. Throughout his life he played hockey and was an avid New England Patriots fan. John also enjoyed running and working on cars and trucks.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted daughters Stacy M. Castelli and her fiancé Eric Ayre of North Attleboro and Stephanie M. Rosselli and her husband Eric of Freetown. He was the cherished grandfather of Renee, Jason, Curtis, Nicholas, Julia and Alyssa. He was the dear brother of the late Timothy Lonergan.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, September 14th from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.
His funeral service, along with military honors will be held on Friday, September 15th at 9:30 at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Those attending the funeral service are asked to go directly to the cemetery and please arrive by 9:15 A.M.
Due to the limitation of flowers allowed at the National Cemetery, John’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the New England Center and Home for Veterans, 17 Court Street, Boston, MA 02108.
