Peter Leslie Sawyer, 73 of Tewksbury, passed away peacefully after a long battle with lung cancer on Monday, September 4, 2023 at Sawtelle Hospice House in Danvers. He was the husband of Anita (Boudreau) Sawyer, with whom he shared over 20 years of marriage.
He was born in Malden, MA on January 11, 1950 and was a son of the late Norman Sawyer and the late Elizabeth (Rheaume) Sawyer. He was raised in the Malden area, where he attended the area schools.
Peter had a 20 year career as a long-haul truck driver, traversing the country numerous times. His passion for crafting with wood, particularly furniture, is shown in the hutches that still adorn the family home. Additionally, he had a deep love for racing, often enjoying races at Loudon and avidly following NASCAR. Peter will be fondly remembered for his exceptional sense of humor and the laughter he easily shared with those around him. He will be greatly missed.
In addition to his beloved wife, Anita Sawyer of Tewksbury, he is survived by his children, Michael Sawyer, Peter Sawyer, Christopher Sawyer, David Sawyer, and Carol Ann Sawyer; his brother, Jay Sawyer and his grandchildren and several other family members.
At his request, there will be no funeral services at this time but a memorial service is being planned and will be announced at a later date.
