TORRINGTON, CT – Joseph C. “Joe” Messier, Jr., 74, of Torrington, Connecticut, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on Saturday, September 2nd, 2023 surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Joe was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Sarah Jane Messier, his sister, Donna Markowski, and his first wife, Jean (Bergeron) Messier. Joe is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Messier of Torrington, CT, his sister, Sue Johns of Southwick, MA, his daughter, Michelle Kelly and her husband Ryan, of Stratford, CT, his daughter, Karen Silva and her fiancé Jack “Jp” Roy of Sutton, MA and Pittsfield, MA respectively, and his daughter, Laura Messier and her husband Brendan Gunn of North Andover, MA. Joe is also survived by his stepchildren, Brandon Mabry and Brittany Lester. He was the loving grandfather to Brennan, Ethan, Jonathan, Adeline and Evan. Joe was born on March 15, 1949 in Springfield, MA. He graduated from Lowell Technological Institute, now the University of Massachusetts Lowell, in 1971. Joe was a supply chain management expert, working for American Cyanamid and Sylvania Lighting before starting his own successful business, Tailwind Technologies. He ended his career at Panolam Industries as the Director of Supply and Distribution, retiring in 2014. Joe and Jean raised their family in Chicopee, MA and then for many years in North Andover, MA. He was funny (so many dad jokes!), a lover of fine cinema (believing firmly that there was no better film than Ghostbusters), a spectator extraordinaire at countless soccer games and dance recitals, and an excellent chef known throughout the extended family for his stuffed mushrooms. Joe was a selfless caregiver who tended to many scraped knees, splinters, and bruises for his three active daughters and tenderly cared for his wife Jean during her own extended illness. Joe was endlessly proud of his daughters and their accomplishments, and extended this same pride to his grandchildren. Joe was their biggest fan. Joe was blessed to find a second love with Patricia. They married on October 6th, 2018. They enjoyed retirement together, doting on their beloved chihuahua Dobby.
