Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at the First Baptist Church, Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Blane Jacobs and the Rev. Charlie Solomon officiating. The interment will be private. The family asks that guests dress comfortably in blue jeans in honor of Mr. Paul’s wishes to be buried in his favorite tie dye shirt and overalls. The family will receive friends following the service in the sanctuary of the church.
Mr. Paul was born on August 29, 1961, in Fitzgerald, Georgia to the late Rosemary Griffin of Fitzgerald and the late Butch Griffin of Albany and to his grandparents, the late CW and Mary Yancey of Fitzgerald.
Mr. Paul graduated from Fitzgerald High School in 1979 and survived a life-altering motorcycle accident just a few years later. After his motorcycle crash 39 years ago, Mr. Paul became a dedicated gym member and worked hard to regain his strength and mobility. He was a proud supporter of the Fitzgerald Hurricanes and owned just about any purple and gold memorabilia he could find. He loved watching the Braves, playing online poker, and attending First Baptist Church of Fitzgerald. Rain or shine, you could always count on Mr. Paul being at Sunday and Wednesday services. He was a member of the Baracca Sunday School class led by Mr. Charlie Solomon.
Mr. Paul never met a stranger and loved being around people. He loved to make people laugh and was the king of Dad-jokes. He was very proud of his sons, Duston and Garrett, and made sure everyone knew it and knew that he was their dad. He loved getting McDonald’s biscuits and cruising around town in his “F-75” black ranger.
He is survived by his sons: Duston & Lane Griffin of Blackshear and Garrett & Abby Griffin of Ocilla; 5 grandchildren: Brody and Katie Griffin of Blackshear and Rhett, Cole, and Bo Griffin of Ocilla; stepmother, Kay Griffin of Albany; sister, Loy Addison of Albany; brother, Wesley and Laura Griffin of Albany. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosemary Griffin, father, Butch Griffin, and grandparents CW and Mary Yancey.
The family suggests those desiring to send memorials may send them to First Baptist Church of Fitzgerald, 402 S Merrimac Dr, Fitzgerald, GA, 31750.
