Karen Elizabeth Sherman (Haug), 80, of 848 Noank Road, Mystic, Conn., passed away after a brief illness surrounded by her loving family on September 2, 2023.
She is survived by her loving husband, Roger Sherman, who she married in 1964, along with three daughters, Heather Somers of Mystic, Erin Montgomery of Groton and Katie Mawhiney of Colchester; seven grandchildren – Hayley Bond, Emily Maher, Ian Bond, Evelyn Morgera ,Andrew Bateson, Patrick Mawhiney and Grace Somers; and five greatgrandchildren, who brought her so much pride and joy in her later years.
Karen was born December 21, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Edward Peter and Lydia Haug. She worked for the New York Family Court System and also as a fashion model as a child and adult.
She was a member of the Noank Baptist Church; the Town of Groton Housing Authority; the Ram Island Yacht Club; a Sorority that assisted with the Odd Fellows Home; Seabird Enterprises, which helps individuals with developmental disabilities; and an active member of the Republican Town Committee.
In addition to her love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Karen’s passions were gardening and interior decorating,
Her family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, September 7, from 1 to 3pm and 6 to 8pm at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. Burial will be held privately on Friday in the family plot in Noank Valley Cemetery.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Details will be posted on this website.
