WEBSTER - Raymond J. Chapdelaine, 88, died Friday, September 1, 2023 in Harrington Hospital at Hubbard with family at his side.
He leaves his wife of 65 years, Loretta M. (Hejwosz) Chapdelaine; 3 children, Karen A. Chapdelaine and her husband Richard LaPierre of Weymouth, David J. Chapdelaine and his wife Michelle of North Grosvenordale, CT, and Nadine A. Cleveland and her husband Robert of Hamilton, NJ; 5 grandchildren, Danielle Kozlowski and her husband Matthew of Thompson, CT, Sarah Blanchard of Old Orchard Beach, ME, and Antoinette Cleveland and twins Reagan and Caitlin Cleveland, all of Hamilton, NJ; 2 great-grandchildren, Gabrielle and Oliver; a brother, Paul Chapdelaine and his wife Marion of South Dennis; nephews and nieces.
He was born on March 3, 1935, the first son of Valmore G. and Bernice M. (Kozicz) Chapdelaine and graduated from Bartlett High School. He lived in Webster all his life.
Mr. Chapdelaine was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict serving as a signalman on the battleship U.S.S. New Jersey.
He was first a mechanic at Deary Brothers in Dudley. A machinist by trade, he worked first at Sandlerette Shoe Company and then for many years at Stevens Linen Associates in Dudley and finally at David Clarke Company in Worcester.
He was a life member of the Polish American Veterans and had served as the State Sergeant of Arms. He belonged to Saint Joseph Basilica and in his youth was a member of the Holy Name Society. He enjoyed woodworking.
He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He liked walking his grand dogs on a regular basis.
The funeral will be held Thursday, September 7, from the Sitkowski, Malboeuf & Hickey Funeral home, 340 School Street, with a Mass at 11:00 AM in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street. Burial, with military honors provided by the Webster-Dudley Veterans Council, will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 AM Thursday in the funeral home, prior to the Mass.
