Mary M. Acevedo, 75, of Prosser, passed away peacefully at her home on August 29, 2023.
She was born on October 7, 1947 in Yokohama, Japan to William and Natsuko (Miura) Callaway. The family came to the United States in 1956 and settled in Yakima a few years later. Mary graduated from Davis High School in 1966, and then she worked for the Yakima Herald and a law office before her marriage to Dan Dailey in 1968. The couple moved to California for two years and she worked in the shipping industry in Long Beach while her husband was in the US Navy. They returned to Yakima and opened the Big Scoop Sundae Palace. After closing the business, they moved to Grandview where they owned and operated DMD Homes. They built homes primarily in Grandview and Mary also worked for the Farm Home Administration helping low-income families obtain home loans. She and Dan divorced in 1989, and then Mary worked for Washington Mutual as a loan officer for over ten years. In 1991, Mary wed Juan Acevedo. They were married for eleven years and fostered five children together before divorcing. Mary continued to own real estate and rental properties.
Mary was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, and she was a faithful Christian. She loved gardening, decorating her home, organizing anything she could get her hands on, and antiquing with her dear friend, Norma Olivarez.
She is survived by her daughter Kim Dailey and fiancé James Torres of Prosser; her son, Rick Dailey and wife Lynn Badia of Fort Collins, CO; her grandchildren, Matthew Dailey, Kaiya Salinas and Kyrah Torres; two sisters, Helen Estep of Lebanon, OR and Patti Galindo of Orange, CA; brother, William Callaway of Pasco; and numerous nieces and nephews.
