In Loving Memory of Kyle Max Rickords (1996-2023)
On August 26th, 2023, the world lost a remarkable soul, as Kyle Max Rickords passed away peacefully at his house in Prosser, WA. Born on July 22, 1996, in Kennewick, WA, Kyle's journey through life was a testament to resilience, love, and the power of a caring family. He was 27 years old.
Kyle's early life was one of challenges and transitions. Placed into foster care during his infancy, he found his forever home with Max and Lisa Rickords in the spring of 1998. He was officially adopted into the Rickords family during the winter of 1998/1999, and his bond with his family was further solidified through a sealing ceremony at the Seattle LDS Temple in the spring of 1999.
Kyle was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Lisa Miriam Harward Rickords in 2010. He is survived by his father, Philip Max Rickords and his step-mother, Jessie Johanson Rickords. Kyle was the youngest of five children which included his sister Heather Leonard, brothers Stephen Rickords and Jacob Rickords, and sister Taija Leonard. The love he shared with his siblings also extended to three step-brothers, four step-sisters, and many nieces and nephews.
Kyle's journey was marked by his unique spirit and determination. Despite being diagnosed with autism at a young age, he never let any challenges define him. His family was his fortress, and they fiercely protected him, fostering an environment in which he could thrive. Kyle's journey took him through Prosser High School, where the invaluable support of the Lifeskills program encouraged him to believe in his abilities and build his self-confidence. After he graduated in 2017, he returned to the Lifeskills classroom as a volunteer. His specific responsibility was helping to care for another student for those two years.
After high school, despite his disability, Kyle always wanted to get a job and work. In April of 2022, he was hired to work in the dish pit washing dishes along with other small jobs at Round Table Pizza in TriCities. His independence shone brightly as he worked alongside his coworkers, a testament to his strength of character. He also spent time at The ARC of TriCities developing his social skills. His passion for video games, drawing, and collecting action figures brought joy to his life. Kyle's love for spicy food was legendary. He enjoyed all types of cuisine including Thai, Chinese, Mexican, and Korean.
Kyle will be remembered not only for his unique interests but also for his unconditional love and gentleness. His spirit touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled.
Many of us who knew Kyle would say there was an unmatched depth of love that surrounded him. As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate the beautiful life he lived and the lasting legacy of kindness, humor, and love he leaves behind.
