Baker, Robert Clark of Lakeland, Florida, formerly of Wellesley, passed away on August 23rd, 2023 at his home after a brief illness.
Robert was raised in Wellesley where he graduated from the local high school in 1954. Later that year, he entered Tufts University in Medford, MA, successfully completing his Bachelor’s of Science in mechanical engineering, and graduating with Cum Laude Honors.
Bob was proud of his scholastic achievements, and even more so of his career in aviation engineering and aerospace projects spanning 40 years and spawning countless stories that mostly revolved around where his favorite eateries were in each city he traveled to.
On any trip, you could find Bob at his favorite stops, gobbling up as many of the local delights as he could. Amongst his most coveted nearby spots were Casey’s Diner in Natick, Marconi’s in Ashland, Pizzeria Regina in Boston, and Woodman’s of Essex. He also took care to appreciate a home cooked meal, always in a sweet way rating any meal his love, Doris, would make while comparing it to previous versions. He loved them all.
An avid sports enthusiast, Bob was always looked forward to watching the New England Patriots, as well as the New York Yankees, a choice his family always questioned. He would say, “I had the choice between Joe DiMaggio and Ted Williams. And that’s just how that went.”
In his later years, Bob enjoyed a good action packed novel, country western TV shows, and feeding the ducks at the lake near his home. He was always especially excited when the same families would come back to the lake year after year after year. One of his favorite pastimes remained taking day trips with Doris in their convertible.
Bob will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his surviving family: His partner and sweetie of over 20 years, Doris Schofield of Kenvtille, Nova Scotia, his daughter Laura Baker of Kissimmee, FL, his daughter Susan Singer and her husband Pete of Middleburg, Florida, his granddaughter Steph McCabe of Framingham, MA, granddaughter Sarah Singer of Ponte Vedra, FL, grandson Jim McCabe of Medford, MA, grandson Robert Singer of Middleburg, FL, granddaughter Alanna Baker of Green Cove Springs, FL and great granddaughter Kami Nicholls of Fleming Island, FL.
Bob is predeceased by his parents Leslie Baker and Ada (Clark) Baker, sister Phyllis, and son, Geoffrey Baker.
In keeping with his wishes, calling hours will not be held, but family and close friends are welcomed at a graveside service at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley, MA at 1:00pm on Saturday, September 2. In Bob’s memory, visitors are encouraged to wear blue, his favorite color.
In lieu of flowers, donations can me made to St. Jude’s Hospital, a charity to which Bob gave generously throughout his life.
