Obituary

James Wiliam Dyess, Sr. 75, of Irwinville, Georgia, died Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at Regency Hospital in Macon, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Monday, September 4, 2023, at Irwinville Baptist Church, in Irwinville, Georgia, with the Rev. Mark Spence and Rev. Larry Dean officiating. Interment will follow in the Eureka Cemetery, in Irwin County, Georgia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services in the sanctuary of the church.

Mr. Dyess was born December 17, 1947, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Richard & Pauline Fletcher Dyess. Mr. Dyess was a truck driver and a jack of all trades. He loved hunting and fishing and was known for his witty personality and jokes. Mr. Dyess served his country honorably in the United States Army, during the Vietnam War. Mr. Dyess loved his family, especially his grandchildren and his best bud, Honey Bee. Mr. Dyess was known to many as “Pops”, because he treated everyone as his own.

He is survived by his children: Tater Bug Dyess of Mystic, and Brenda Nixon & Shannon of Irwinville and Lisa Collins & Derrick of Mystic; grandchildren: Kaylee Sapp & Logan, Rylee Lamb, Keaton Nixon, Kimberly Ward & Dillon, Justin Nixon & Haley, Kaycee Nixon and Darron Collins; three great grandchildren: Lilleigh Kate Nixon, Charley Maverick Nixon, and Emmie Lou Ward; and a sister, Carol Bowen & Doug of Tifton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Ann Dyess; a daughter, Dixie Marie Dyess; a sister, Bonnie Jo Gentry and a brother, Larry Dyess.
