Ronald J. Lafond, 76, of Paris Irons Road, Chepachet, passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at St. Antoine in North Smithfield, with his wife by his side. He was the husband of Ann M. (Gabel) Lafond, with a marriage spanning over 45 years, during which they resided together in Glocester.
Ron was a hardworking, proud, and honest man. In his earlier years, he worked as a dispatcher for the Woonsocket Fire Department. Later he started his own business, R&D Concrete Cutting, where he worked for the next 35 years until his well-deserved retirement. Ron was also enlisted in the US Navy and held the position of past president of the Cercle Laurier.
Ron was an avid sports fan and enjoyed baseball, football, golf, hockey, and deep-sea fishing. He was a big supporter of the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and Boston Bruins. Beyond his love of sports, he also took pleasure in working in his yard, regardless of the season. He enjoyed being outside, grilling and having cookouts with family and friends.
A man of few words, Ron possessed the virtue of measured speech. Ron was many things, a good listener, a jokester, a loyal friend. Sometimes he could be stubborn but no matter what he was always there for anyone in need. Above all, he was kindhearted. His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, Ron is survived by his siblings: Deacon Robert Lafond and his wife Diane, Leo Lafond and his wife Sandy, Lucille Paquette, Janet Contre, Arline Richard and her husband Al, and Claire Berard and her husband Eugene, as well as his brother-in-law Gregory Gabel and Rhonda Rohelia. He was also a beloved figure in the lives of his godchildren: James R. Dagesse and Allison H. Gabel, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his brothers Normand and Ernest Lafond and his sister Muriel Dagesse.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10 am Wednesday, September 6th at St. Eugene’s Church, 1251 Putnam Pike, Chepachet. A visitation period will be held on Tuesday, September 5th from 4-7pm at the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. The burial will be a private ceremony.
