Edward Martin Lobo, 80, of New Bedford passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday August 29, 2023, surrounded by his wife Angel, his son Blake, and Blake’s girlfriend Amber.
Edward was born on January 8, 1943 in Acushnet and was raised in East Fairhaven. He was the third child of Joseph and Emma (Martin) Lobo. Ed was a wonderful husband, father and friend and was happiest when surrounded by his family and close friends. He is survived by his wife of 42 years Angel, his two sons Blake and Gilbert, his daughter Kristen “Shaya,” and his Godson Miguel. He also leaves behind his siblings David and Dee and several nieces and nephews. He was a beloved Papa to three grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Archie Lobo.
Ed had many passions in life. He was an avid sailor and enjoyed his time on the water racing. He was a member of the Low Tide Yacht Club and served as their Commodore for many years. He also sailed out of Beverly Yacht Club. Ed also enjoyed playing chess, arm wrestling and all the New England sports teams. He was his family’s renowned Chef and enjoyed cooking for family and friends. He loved hosting his family and friends and his crew for dinners in his home. Ed was a very warm-hearted man and welcomed anyone in to his home no questions asked. He helped his wife Angel raise other children in their home.
Edward was a brilliant electrical engineer and owned many patents. He graduated from UMass Amherst and later received his Master’s degree in Chemistry. Ed was a hardworking man and spent many years working for Cornell-Dubilier Electronics as the Director of Engineering for new product development. He was a recipient of the company’s gold medal Energy Award for his superior engineering resulting in energy savings and environmental improvement.
His visiting hours will be held on Friday Sept. 1st from 4-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. His funeral will be held on Saturday Sept. 2nd at 9 AM from the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Julie Billiart Church, Dartmouth at 10 AM. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery.
