Obituary

Carolyn I. (Staffier) Thorne, age 80, a 57-year resident of Winchester, passed away on August 29, 2023 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was the beloved wife for 57 years of David A. Thorne.

Born in Cambridge, Carolyn was the daughter of the late Dr. Anthony R. and Christine (Mackenzie) Staffier. She attended the Brimmer & May School in Chestnut Hill, Lasell University and Northeastern University, and was employed as a Radiologic Technologist for many years and also worked as a Real Estate Broker.

She enjoyed and taught needlepoint, knitting and created personalized flags as part of a small business venture. She was also very active and spent time exercising, enjoyed walking and traveling on winter getaways. She was very involved in local conservation issues and was a true animal lover. She was an avid reader, baker and loved spending time with family and friends, playing tennis, and swimming and boating at their New Hampshire home on Lake Winnipesaukee. In Winchester, she was actively involved with the school and PTO when her children were younger, never missing any occasion or sports game. She treasured being a grandmother and was present for all events. She will be remembered for her caring ways and for always being there for everyone during their times of need and health situations, including her parents and close friends.

In addition to her husband David, Carolyn is lovingly survived by her children, Christopher Thorne and his wife Melisa of Stoneham, MA and Jennifer Thorne of Winchester, MA ,her grandchildren Marisa Thorne and Christina Thorne of Stoneham, her brother, John Staffier and his wife Bonnie of Bethesda, MD, her nieces Samantha Burman and Mackenzie Staffier, and her nephew, Alex Staffier.

A Funeral Mass will be held in St. Raphael Church, 512 High St., Medford on Saturday, September 16th at 10:00 A.M. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carolyn’s memory may be made to the Kaplan Family Hospice House at https://giving.caredimensions.org
