Gene Munson Hoyt, a resident of Londonderry, NH, passed away Tuesday August 29, 2023 at the age of 91. She was born in Stamford, CT on February 9, 1932, a daughter of the late Harold and Marjorie (McIntosh) Munson. She had resided in North Haven, CT, and Moultonborough, NH before moving to Londonderry 4 ½ years ago.
Gene's youth was spent enjoying sailing, skiing, and playing the violin and piano. In high school she became a Mariner Scout and a cheerleader. Gene graduated from the University of Connecticut with a BS in Home Economics. At college she was an active member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority and the Ski Club. It was in the Ski Club where she met her future husband, Russell Hoyt. After their marriage in 1953, Gene stayed home to raise her children. She and the family were very active in outdoor activities including skiing, camping, canoeing, backpacking, and sailing. She also enjoyed volunteering for the American Red Cross and scouting organizations. Summers were spent at the family camp on Bear Island, Lake Winnipesaukee. After her husband’s retirement in 1982, they built their retirement home and relocated to Moultonborough, New Hampshire. While enjoying lake living, they remained active by participating in many outdoor activities including snowmobiling, skiing, motor home trips, and cruises. Gene was known to be loving, hardworking, independent, diligent, and persistent and inspired her family to be the same.
Gene will be sadly missed by her three children, Neil R. Hoyt (Lyn) of Lahaina, HI, Susan H. Relihan (Don) of Orange, CT, and Gail H. Gardocki (Bill) of Londonderry. Gene left a lasting cherished influence on her grandchildren, Amy, Brian, Tom, and Laura. Gene leaves four great-grandchildren, Colson, Ava, Owen, and Anna. She was predeceased by her husband Russell, brother, Harold D. Munson, Jr. and by her sister, Gail Elliott.
