Obituary

Phyllis Bader Krag, 93, of Newton MA and Bailey Island Maine, formerly of Lexington, died peacefully on August 24th of progressive Alzheimer’s disease. She was born to Carl and Rose (Hoffman) Bader on June 26, 1930 in West Roxbury.

She graduated as valedictorian from Roslindale High School, and then went on to Radcliffe, where she graduated cum laude in 1951. She met William Krag while in Cambridge and they married in 0ctober of that year.

She was raised a city girl, but grew up spending many summers at a family cottage in Maine. As a true New Englander, she swam in the ocean every day. With Bill, she grew to love the outdoors, spending weekends and summers hiking and camping in the White Mountains. They also loved exploring the Southwest for the years Bill worked in Socorro, NM. An indelible memory for all the Krag children was a wonderful summer spent camping across the United States, visiting many National Parks. She loved to travel, and chose Iceland as her 50th country, traveling there in 2015 with her daughters and her eldest and youngest grandchildren.

She loved learning about everything, and loved teaching her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed crosswords, reading (especially Swedish mysteries), writing, cooking, entertaining, gardening, a good game of Michigan, and all dogs, especially her dogs Riley and Chessie. She could seem reserved, but give her a Manhattan and one of her cheesy Pecan bites and she would be the last to leave a party. But she loved most – and was most proud of – her family.

She was predeceased by her husband William Krag and is survived by her children and their spouses: Peter and MaryAnn, Karen and Joel, Carl and Laura, Ellen and Kris, her 6 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She is also survived by her younger sisters Shirley (Lutz) and Carol (Eaves).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Harpswell Heritage Land Trust or the Alzheimer’s Association.
