Carroll Young, 79, of Ben Hill County, Georgia, died Saturday, August 26, 2023, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at New Bethel Holiness Baptist Church in Ben Hill County, Georgia, with the Rev. Logan Walker and the Rev. Edsel Young officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Monday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Young was born March 23, 1944, in Coffee County, Georgia, to the late Luther & Lilah Mae Williams Young. He was a 1962 graduate of Fitzgerald High School. He was a truck driver in the mobile home industry and worked on the assembly line at Delphi, retiring after 30 years. He enjoyed reading and puzzle books. Mr. Young was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish as well as coon hunting and fox hunting. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with his grands and great-grands.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth “Lizzy” Rowell Young of Ben Hill County; two daughters: Vivian Denney of Ocilla and Melba & Al Merritt of Wray; grandchildren: Nic & Maria Denney, Mac & Hali Denney, Anna Denney, Heather & Garret Hortman, and Casey & Janie Merritt; great-grandchildren: Wyatt Denney, Harli Denney, Hensli Denney, Hannon Denney, Morgun Denney, Henry Denney, Lillah Nater, Clee Merritt, Joanna Merritt, Emma Hortman, and Benji Hortman; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers: Jake Young, Melvin Young, Travis Young, and Virgil Young.
