Charlotte Williams, 87, of New Bedford passed away unexpectedly August 24, 2023 at Charlton Memorial Hospital of natural causes, peacefully surrounded by her family.
Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late John Barros Sr. and Alice (Soit) Barros. Charlotte was mother, grandmother, confidant to not only her family, but to neighbors and coworkers as well. She was the person to turn to for advice, a friendly phone call or warm meal. She loved games shows, debating local and national politics and her soaps.
She started as a cafeteria worker at New Bedford Vocational Technical High School on Hilman St and retired 20 years later as part of the custodial staff.
Charlotte will be greatly missed by all that knew her and loved her.
Survivors include her children, Gertrude C. Caldwell of Mattapoisett, Arthur R. Silva, Jr. and his partner Anneliese Andrews of New Bedford, Debra A. Gomes and her spouse Domingos of New Bedford, Edith A. Silva-Williams of Rockport, MA, Charlene E. Thomas and her former husband Ben of Auburn, AL, Melody A. Williams of New Bedford; her siblings Jeannette Barboza of Rochester, and John Barros, Jr. of Dartmouth; her grandchildren, Mosadi Caldwell, Crystal Favours, Rachelle Johnson, Joi Zager, Benjamin Thomas, III, Jenna Rae Silva, Erin Silva, Wayne A. Silva, Jr., Milton C. Thomas, Dominique Gomes, Kibi Williams-Brown, Alexander K. Silva; many great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her son Wayne A. Silva, Sr.; her husband Milton E. Williams; and former husband Arthur R. Silva, Sr.; and her siblings Anna Mae Gonzalez and Elizabeth "Betty" Barros.
According to her wishes, her funeral services will be private.
