Obituary

WINDHAM - Elaine Ann Dickinson, age 83, beloved wife of the late Rev. Donald P. Dickinson, died at home under the guidance and steadfast care of her daughter and Northern Light Hospice, on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023, after living with the limitations of Multiple System Atrophy for the last few years. Regardless of physical limitations, Elaine fully engaged in life.

Elaine was a native of Charlestown, MA. She held a nursing degree from Lawrence Memorial in Medford, MA, and worked as a pediatric home health nurse before retiring to care for her husband. Don and Elaine came to Windham when Don found his 18th-century retirement home. Don and Elaine were diligent stewards of the Parson Smith House. A home that they opened to every third-grade class, until Don’s illness ceased the interior tours. Elaine always stated, ‘Don bought the house, I bought the land.’ She remained an active, organic gardener until her physical limitations and the discovery of PFAS made gardening unsafe.

Elaine is survived by her children; Holly Dickinson Amidon and David Dickinson, David’s wife, Kristy, and her grandchildren; Daniel Amidon, and Jessica, Emma, and Andrew (A.J.) Dickinson. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation on Sept. 23 at 10 am. at United Baptist Church, 318 Main Street, Saco. A memorial service will follow thereafter at 11 am.
