Obituary

Mary Teresa Tomasulo was born on March 19, 1929 and passed away on August 24, 2023 at 94 years old. She was born in Brooklyn, NY where she spent the first 22 years of her life. Mary graduated from St. John’s Hospital nursing school after 4 years. Soon after, she met her husband George at a dance. It was love at first sight, they got engaged within 3 months and were married 6 months later. After George returned from serving in the Army, they moved to Columbus, Ohio with their 3-month-old son so George could finish his education. After leaving his first teaching job in Cleveland, they moved to Ventura in 1959, with their 4 children, all under six years of age, where George started a teaching job Cabrillo Junior High and Mary started a nursing job at the old Foster Hospital on Loma Vista which is now CMH. She worked there while raising her 4 children. In 1970, she was offered the job of Head Nurse in the treatment room, a place that tended to emergency type patients that required skilled nursing care. She assisted the orthopedic doctors with casts and did various heart procedures with Dr. Hart and other Cardiologists. Mary also rendered care to accident patients, started blood transfusions for Leukemia patients and those needing intravenous therapy.
Finally, in 1972 she ventured into office nursing and found that very challenging. She loved working with Dr. David Perlmutter and his staff while taking care of all their wonderful patients.
She finally retired in 1997 after 24 years of office nursing, to enjoy being a Grandma to her 6 grandchildren after spending over 50 years of her life in nursing.
She loved caring for people in general and found nursing to be the 2nd love of her life, the first being her husband, children & grandchildren.
Mary enjoyed long walks on the Ventura promenade with her husband George, family gatherings, photography, travel, and reading. She also loved watching her various grandchildren play sports, especially tennis.
She volunteered at the Ventura police K-9 unit storefront in our mall and enjoyed all the friends there. Started in 1999.
Mary was the beloved wife of her husband George for 61 1/2 years. He preceded her in death on January 9, 2014.
She is survived by their son Steven and wife Becky of Ventura, their son Devon and his fiancé Shayda of Newport Beach, California, their son Douglas of Boise, ID, and their daughter Susan and her husband Dennis Montoya, of Camarillo. She is also survived by six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Jennifer Montoya and husband Courtney Palmore, Morgan Montoya, his wife Amanda & their son Logan, daughter Julia Belle, Max Montoya and Margeau Montoya, Jessie and Tomas Snyder, all the joys of her life.

Her family and hundreds of her patients remember her with affection.
