Kenneth McCook, 77, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at Memorial Health in Savannah, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Friday, August 25, 2023, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Steve Hand officiating. Interment will follow in Mt Olive Cemetery, Ben Hill County. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Thursday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. McCook was born September 19, 1945, in Ben Hill County, Georgia, to the late Woodrow & Thelma Fitzgerald McCook. He was a 1965 graduate of Fitzgerald High School and earned his diesel mechanic certificate from technical school in Americus. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a lifelong farmer and tractor mechanic and had a special affinity for International Harvester tractors. He worked for Ben Hill Truck & Tractor and the New Holland dealership. He was a hard worker who enjoyed helping Rodney Miller restore old IH tractors. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda Brady McCook of Fitzgerald; daughters: Wendy & Whit Story of Fitzgerald and Terri & Jason Bowen of Perry; grandchildren: Megan & Nick Newton, Megan Story, Lauren Story, Luke Kent, Logan Kent, Linley Bowen, and Hope Usher; a great-granddaughter, Maddie Newton; a sister, Jean & Kyle Phillips of Fitzgerald, and a brother, Randall McCook of Eatonton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Kenneth McCook, a son-in-law, Jamey Kent and a sister, Mary Linda Wells.
