Antonio “Tony” M. Silva, 78, of Westport, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday, August 21, 2023 at Catholic Memorial Home. He was the devoted husband of Ophelia (Oliveira) Silva to whom he was married to for over 56 years. His loyalty and love for his wife as she battles Alzheimer’s was a testament of his true love for her and their amazing love story.
Mr. Silva was born in Mosteiros, St. Michael, Azores, son of the late Manuel F. and Maria C. Silva, and had resided in Westport for over 55 years. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Silva worked for the Laborers' International Union of America Local #876. He was an active communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport. He was an avid New England sports fan and especially enjoyed watching the Celtics and the Bruins. He also loved the Christmas season as it was truly his favorite time of the year. Mr. Silva was extremely proud of his family especially his granddaughter whom he loved dearly. He will be remembered as a kind, compassionate, and giving soul.
Survivors along with his wife include his daughter: Goretti S. Joaquim and her husband Oscar of Dartmouth; his brother: Walter F. Silva and his wife Marilyn of Swansea; his granddaughter: Gabriella G. Joaquim; and countless friends and extended family.
Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport at 11:00 A.M.
Visitation will be Saturday, at the Potter Funeral Home from 8:30 - 10 A.M. prior to the Mass.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimers Foundation.
