Beloved father, grandfather, and friend
York Beach, ME: Frank P. Dunbar, age 85, a former longtime resident of Tewksbury, passed away at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, NH on August 18, 2023.
He was the beloved husband of the late Jeanette A. (Rooney) Dunbar with whom he shared 55 years of marriage before her death on July 1, 2015.
Born in Boston on July 22, 1938, he began his life in East Boston, Cape Cod, then went to live in Dorchester with his aunt, the late Marguerite (Surette) Comeau, and her husband, Ernest J. Comeau Sr. He graduated from Boston English High in 1956 before the family moved to Andover.
Frank started his career working for the Employers Group Insurance Company in Boston, where he met his wife, Jeanette. He put himself through college at night and earned a degree in accounting from Bentley College. He worked for the same company, later known as Commercial Union Insurance Company, for 40 years, advancing from accountant to manager of information systems. After his retirement in 1996, he worked an additional two years as a contractor at their new location in Foxboro.
He resided in Medford, Massachusetts and Cleveland, Ohio before returning to Massachusetts and settling his family in Tewksbury in 1966. In retirement, he moved to York Beach, Maine where Jeanette had a family summer cottage that they converted to a year-round home. Frank enjoyed his days of sitting in his rocker on the porch gazing out at the ocean and Boon Island and chatting with anyone passing by, as well as spending time with his family. He was an avid Boston sports fan.
He is survived by three of his children, Donna M. Makuc and her husband James of Boylston, Patricia A. Spiegel and her husband Andrew of Tewksbury, and John M. Frank’s children would like to express their gratitude to his aide Nancy, whose care and companionship allowed him to enjoy his independence and continue to live at home for a few extra years. They would also like to thank St. Ann Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Dover, NH for the care and comfort they gave to Frank over the past year when his health and physical limitations made it impossible to return home.
