J. Bradshaw Griffith

It is with great regret that we announce the passing of J. Bradshaw Griffith, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend of many on Monday, August 21, 2023.
J. Bradshaw Griffith (Brad), a resident of Needham, MA and formerly of Boston, Wellesley, Martha’s Vineyard, and Palm Beach, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Patricia Ann (McEvoy) in 2019. He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Maura and Greg Moffatt of Wellesley, MA; Marci and Franz Loeber of Weston, MA; Karen and James Gray of Wellesley, MA; and Kimberly and Andrew Hyland of Wellesley, MA. He loved and adored his grandchildren Caroline, Jack, Courtney, Taylor, Paul, Meghan, Ainsley, Devin, and Ashley. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Maryellen McEvoy O’Donnell and his sister Mary Pendleton.
Born in Orange, New Jersey to the late Eileen and Mortimer Griffith, Brad moved to Framingham, MA as a youth. He attended St. Sebastian’s School and later Tufts University. Upon graduation from college, he went to Officer Candidate School with the U.S. Navy, where he achieved the rank of Lieutenant JG and proudly served on the U.S.S. Atka. Following his time in the Navy, Brad discovered his passion for commercial real estate.
From 1979 to 2001, Brad was Co-Founder, Co-Chief Executive Officer, and Chief Investment Officer of Leggat McCall Properties. In 2002, Brad founded Griffith Properties LLC, a firm he ran until he retired in 2010.
Throughout his life, Brad believed it was important to give back to the communities and institutions that helped him succeed in life. Over his long professional career, his community service and professional affiliations included serving as President, Board of Trustees of his beloved St. Sebastian’s School; Trustee, Wang Center For the Performing Arts; Director, Bay State College; President, MetroWest Chamber of Commerce; President New England Chapter of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors; Member, Urban Land Institute; National Director, SIOR; Co-chair, Middlebury College Parents’ Association; and Clerk/Director, Greater Boston Real Estate Board.
Brad was a member of Brae Burn Country Club for over 50 years, and a former member of The Everglades Club and The Edgartown Yacht Club. He enjoyed traveling the world with family and friends, and reveled in shared experiences.
Visiting Hours will be observed on Thursday, August 24 from 4:00 until 7:00pm at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington Street, (Rt.16), Wellesley. A Celebration of Brad's Life will be held in Saint Cecilia Parish, 18 Belvidere Street, Boston on Friday, August 25 at 10:00am.
