Vernon E. Hood “Papa” 80, of Yulee passed away Monday afternoon, July 10, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Hood was born June 17, 1943, in Jacksonville, FL and moved to Yulee in 1970. He retired as head electrician from Swisher International with over 35 years of employment.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Sandra Hood, his parents, Carsley and Odessa Hood and a sister, Mary Kelson.
Survivors include two sons, Clint A. Hood, Duane E. Hood Sr. (Paula), a daughter Robin R. Hood; two brothers, Elwin “Buddy” Hood and Lonnie Hood; a sister, Marjorie “Sis” Kierce ; eight grandchildren, Duane Hood, Jr., Meagann Willis (Alton), Tiffany Tuttle (Shane), Kaileah Gregory (Gerald), Tia Glackin, Hailey Ramos, Evan Hood and Breanna Hood; ten great grandchildren, Brayden, Duane III, Mason, Sophia, Avery, Aspen, Emma, Jase, Remi and Grizzly; and a nephew, Gary Kierce (Teena).
Mr. Hood was a skilled woodworker who could turn any vision into reality. He enjoyed watching baseball and softball, whether at the ballfields watching grand and great grands playing or on the screen. He was a loving, hardworking, dependable family man. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and watching old Westerns on repeat. He was good at keeping everyone informed about the news and most importantly the daily weather report.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 16, in the Stephens Chapel at Green Pine Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Tippins officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00p m. with the services starting PROMPTLY at 3:00pm, we all know he likes to be on time. He will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife of 42 years, a reunion 18 years in the making.
