Jean Selve Cassamajor Sr, affectionately known as ‘Titon,’ passed away at home on August 21, 2023. Titon was born on December 27, 1937 in Petit-Gôave, Haiti. He was the younger son of two for his parents, Belina Hyppolite and Sylvera Cassamajor.
Titon met his devoted wife, Claudette Paul, while they were both in Haiti. They were married on October 29, 1966, and soon welcomed their first child. He immigrated to the United States in February 1970 in pursuit of a better life for himself and his family. In February 1971, his wife, Claudette, joined him in the US and they started to expand their family. In June 1979, Titon and Claudette achieved their dream of homeownership when they purchased their home in Hyde Park, where they lived together until present day.
Titon was a devout Catholic who attended mass weekly at Saint Angela’s Church. He instilled the importance of religion and education in all of his children and pridefully sent them all to parochial schools. Titon was a pillar in the Boston Haitian community and was loved and respected by many. He loved and cared for his family and truly valued his friendships. He was an avid music lover, and loved to dance and attend concerts of his favorite Haitian bands, like Septen and Tropicana, with his wife.
Titon worked at General Dynamics as a welder for many years until they closed. He went on to work at American Built Right and eventually retired from Haartz Mason Inc. at age 62. After retirement, Titon was a founding member of HOAP, an organization dedicated to raising funds and giving back to his hometown of Petit-Gôave.
Titon is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, and his children: Bernard (Claudia) Cassamajor, Myriam Lauriston, Garvel (Santara) Cassamajor, Judy (Millery) Polyné, Jean Jr. (Ahkia) Cassamajor, 12 grandchildren, one great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
Grandchildren: Ariel Leveque, Ne'Tayjah Cassamajor, Fritzsy Lauriston, Garvel Selve Cassamajor, Romario Lauriston, Brendan Cassamajor, Sasha Cassamajor, Nadia Cassamajor, Avery Cassamajor, Ellison Polyné, Aquille Cassamajor, Avonte Cassamajor. Great-grandchild: Jeremy Leveque, Siblings: Bertha Desameau, Gladys St. Louis, Carole Charles, Moreno Joseph.
Predeceased by: Yvon Cassamajor, Alphonse Cassamajor, Marie-Anne Loiseau.
