Robert James Adams, aged 88, died at home in Winchester, MA on Wednesday, August 16, 2023. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Celine McAdoo Adams. Known variously as Jimmy, Bob, Dad, Mr. Adams, Mr. A, and Papa, he and his sense of humor will be deeply missed.
Originally from Somerville, MA, he was the oldest son of Andrew Adams and Margaret Guri who died when he was seven years old. Raised in Somerville then Winchester by his father and his aunt Olymbia Jovan, he had two brothers, Christopher and Alexander. He graduated from Winchester High School and the Massachusetts College of Art and was Art Director at several Boston area advertising firms through the 60s, 70s, and 80s. He served in the army and was a photographer stationed at Camp Red Cloud in Korea. A proud Albanian, he was a member of St. George’s Albanian Orthodox Cathedral in South Boston where he served as a lay deacon for many years.
He is survived by his children Michele Norman of Winchester, MA and her husband Ron; Denise Wallace of Newburyport and her husband Jeremiah; Andrew Adams of Winchester, MA and his wife Danielle; and Alison Cohen of Winchester and her husband Andrew. He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren Andrew James, Hanna, Karl, Liam Robert, Ella, Addison, Benjamin James, Jacob Robert, Kate, and Lila, all of whom he adored.
He will be laid to rest with his wife in Wildwood Cemetery in Winchester.
