Obituary

Charles H. “Charlie” Tartaglia, age 87, of South Easton, formerly of Brockton, died peacefully on August 14, 2023. Charlie was the husband of Penelope (Neagle) Tartaglia for 64 years. Born and raised in Brockton, he was the son of the late Louis and Mary (Volta) Tartaglia. Charlie was a graduate of Brockton High School and in 1995 he was inducted into the Brockton High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

During the Vietnam era, Charlie served in the US Army. Since 1969, he owned and operated George’s Café on Belmont Street in Brockton. Charlie was active in the Brockton community: he was Boxing Commissioner for 30 years and was elected City Councilor of Ward 2. In addition he served on the board of directors of Massasoit and Stonehill Colleges. He was also a longtime member of the Bocci Club, Hundred Club, Sons of Italy, American Legion Post 34 and Ring 4.

Though active in the community, Charlie was devoted to his family and proud of his children.

Charlie is survived by his wife Penelope and his daughter Diane Kashgagian. Charlie was the father of the late Paula Franciosi and the late Charles “Chuckie” Tartaglia. He was the grandfather of Matthew Franciosi and his wife Judith, Rachel Franciosi, Andrew Tartaglia and his wife Tiffani, Ryan Tartaglia and his wife Julianne, Eric Tartaglia, Nicholas Kashgagian and his fiancé Courtney White, Anthony Kashgagian and Sarah Kashgagian. Charlie was the brother of the late Louis Tartaglia, Jr. and his wife Ernestine (Tina) and the late Henry “Hank” Tartaglia his wife Kathleen. He was the father in law of David Franciosi and Christine Tartaglia. In addition to his grandchildren, he is survived by three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
