Ronald DaCosta, 86, of Dartmouth passed away Friday August 18, 2023 surrounded by his family after a brief illness.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late John and Elvira (Cacilhas) DaCosta, he lived in Dartmouth for most of his life.
Ron was a graduate of Dartmouth High School, where he was a member of the football team. He later earned his degree in engineering from UMass Dartmouth. He worked as a supervisor at Texas Instruments for 20 years.
He was coach for the DYAA Pee Wee football program, where his teams won many championships throughout the years. He was also a member of the Chain Gang, moving the yardage chains for the Dartmouth High School football games. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and enjoyed vacationing at numerous Sandals Resorts throughout the years.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1962, having been activated during the Berlin Crisis.
He is survived by his son Thomas DaCosta and his wife Kathy; his brother, Thomas DaCosta and his wife Celeste; three granddaughters, Madison Denning and her husband Brett, Sydney DaCosta, and Ally DaCosta; his longtime friend, Louise Lussier; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his former wife, Nancy F. (Pacheco) DaCosta.
His funeral service will be held on Friday August 25th at 10 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Fairhaven.
