Obituary

James S. Thompson, a beloved resident of Litchfield, NH, previously of Lowell and Dracut MA, passed away on August 18, 2023, following a period of declining health, while under the care of Pleasant Valley Rehab. He was born in Lowell on August 9, 1943, to the late James H. and Eleanor M. (Szymaszek) Thompson. On August 6, 1966, he married Leslie A. (Roy) Thompson, his devoted wife of 57 years.

Born in Lowell, Jim spent his formative years there before his family relocated to Dracut. He completed his education at Dracut High School and also worked on Richardson's Farm during his youth. He furthered his education by obtaining an associate's degree from Merrimack College.

Jim dedicated just under 35 years of service to BAE Systems out of Nashua NH as the Senior Administrator.

Jim's life was characterized by his unwavering commitment to community service. He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Hudson NH. An active member of Saint Vincent DePaul, he found joy in extending a helping hand to those in need, often dedicating his holidays to providing nourishment to the less fortunate. He possessed a passion for travel, an affinity for cars, and an appreciation for horseback riding. Trips to Foxwoods added excitement to his life, and his membership with the Knights of Columbus in Lowell reflected his deep engagement with his community.

His true passion, however, lay in the pursuit of hidden treasures through metal detecting. Alongside his wife, he embarked on numerous journeys to explore both nearby and far-off places, making strong friendships along the way, proudly affiliating with the Professional Treasure Hunter's Historical Society of Keene, NH. Yet, amidst his various interests, nothing held a candle to the cherished moments he spent with his family.

Jim leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. He is survived by his adoring wife, Leslie of Litchfield, and their two daughters: Cynthia Funk and her husband Joel of Pearishburg, VA and Deborah Watts and her husband Matthew of Manchester. His memory lives on through his three grandchildren and his great grandchildren: Sean Sirois and his wife Angela and their children Killian and Scarlet, Stephen Belanger, and Alicia Sirois, along with her fiancé Kori Williams and his daughter Sophie. He is also survived by his sister, Maryann Chabot, and her husband Marty of Wolfeboro, NH, as well as his brother Dennis Thompson and his wife Annrose D. of Dracut. His extended family includes several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a multitude of friends.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Pierre Dionne of Hudson, NH for his many years of dedicated support, attention, and compassionate care provided to Jim and his family.
