John passed peacefully at the VA Hospital in West Roxbury under the care of the compassionate nurses and staff on the AG Ward and the Palliative Care Team.
John is the son of the late Harry B. and Betty J. (Gifford) Morrissey
John was an Army Veteran (a sharpshooter), an artist (he once designed and painted a mural in the hallway of Muzzey Junior High School in Lexington- that stayed up for many years); and he was a phenomenal baker.
John was married twice (to the mothers of his daughters) first to Evelyn Brown of Boston (Deceased) and then to his second wife, Sandra (Oliver) Champion of Billerica (Deceased). He was also the longtime partner of Sharon Curran of South Boston. His children are Kelly Gifford of Salem; Kristle Gifford; Jessca Banfill, husband Howard; Tiffany Gifford; and Katelyn Benwell, husband Adam all of Laconia, New Hampshire.
His grandchildren are Logan, wife Amanda and Eavan Jakubajtys Adalyn and Ellis Banfill; Landon, Liam and Cooper Nadaeu; Lacie, Lexi and Nolan Benwell. He also has a great granddaughter Reagan Jakubajtys
Brother to Joyce Powers of South Boston; Janice Hogan (Deceased), Brother-in-Law of George Hogan of South Boston; Jeanne Hogan (Deceased), Brother-in-Law of Michael Hogan (Deceased) formerly of South Boston; James Gifford and his wife Margaret of East Bridgewater; Jacqueline Breen and her husband Daniel of Dorchester; and Jennifer Nichols of Dorchester.
He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and cousins.
Interment will be private and his life will be celebrated by family and friends at a later date.
