Maureen Patricia McElhinney O'Hara

Maureen Patricia O'Hara, 92, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Monday, August 14, 2023.

She was born in Manhattan, NY on May 17, 1931, the daughter of the late Andrew James McElhinney and Marion Theresa (Kelley) McElhinney.

Maureen was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Thomas L. O’Hara, Jr.

Devoted mother of Kathleen O'Hara, M.D. of NY, Thomas O'Hara, III of VA, Kevin O'Hara and his wife Elizabeth Davis of TX, Patricia Rice and her husband Barry Rice of VA, Sheila O'Hara of MA, and the late Brian O'Hara and Erin O'Hara. Mother in law of Cynthia O’Hara Rinaldi of FL.

Beloved grandmother of Catharine Natterman and her husband Daniel Natterman of NC, David O'Hara and his wife Morgan Allen of MA, Elizabeth Bralower and her husband Paul Bralower of NY, Sean O'Hara of VA, Padraig O'Hara of AZ, Mairead O'Hara of UT, Daniel Clark and his wife Clare Certo of NJ, Stephen Clark and his wife Melissa Wasilewski, M.D. of VA, and the late Brighid O'Hara of TX. 

She is also survived by her 11 great grandchildren Jack and Eloise Natterman of NC, Nora, Eamon and Malcolm O'Hara of MA, Emelia, James and Thomas Bralower of NY, Henry, Louisa and Daphne Clark of NJ. 

Sister of Andrew James McElhinney, Jr, M.D. of NY and Joseph James McElhinney of NY. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Maureen grew up in Pelham, NY and lived there until her marriage in 1953. She graduated from Pelham Memorial High School in 1948 as "the prettiest girl in the class.” She graduated in 1952 from The College of St Elizabeth, Covenant Station, NJ with a BS degree in Home Economics. 

She worked in Safety and Insurance Division of the Continental Baking Company at its NYC headquarters. She was married on May 2, 1953 and moved to Portland, ME. Her other jobs included full time homemaker, and later years she was a volunteer worker for the American Red Cross Blood mobiles for many years, She was also an office volunteer at Hospice at Home in Wayland. She was a Deputy inspector for local, state and national elections held in both Weston and Wayland, MA. In addition she was a Merit Badge counselor for Boy Scout Troop 157 in Weston and spent one summer session with the troop at The Hidden Valley Boy Scout Camp in NH. She volunteered for many school projects, field trips, plays and sporting events throughout the Weston School system from 1965-1981. She was a member of the Weston Boosters Board of Directors from 1974-1980 serving as both the treasurer and the secretary. In addition she was a volunteer driver for Weston Fish (Friends in Service of Helping) for over 25 years. She did work for a time at the Weston Manor Nursing Home as an aide in the 1970's. In her words, "My primary focus was always family".

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 25, 2023 from 4:00-7:00 pm at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington Street, Wellesley, Mass.

Family and friends are invited to her Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 11:00 am at Good Shepard Parish at St Ann's Church, 134 Cochituate Road, Wayland, Mass.

Interment will follow in the O'Hara family plot at Linwood Cemetery, Weston, MA
