James L. McGlinchey, Sr.

TEWKSBURY: James L. “Jim” McGlinchey, Sr., age 83, a resident of Tewksbury for over 50 years, formerly of Charlestown, passed away peacefully at home in the care of his family and hospice on Thursday, August 17, 2023, following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was the longtime companion of the late Patricia A. (Ryan) Souza and former husband of the late Eileen M.(Cadigan) McGlinchey.
Born in Boston on November 6, 1939, he was the son of the late Charles M. McGlinchey and the late Margaret M. (Breen) McGlinchey.
Jim was raised in Charlestown, attended local schools, and graduated from Charlestown High School.
Following high school, he served in the U.S. Army and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal for his active-duty service.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 30 years by the United Parcel Service (U.P.S.) and was a member of Teamster’s Local # 25.
He was an active communicant of St. William’s Parish in Tewksbury and was a member of the Men’s Club and the Couples Club. In addition, he was a member and Past Grand Knight of the Tewksbury Knights of Columbus, Fr. Francis Coppens Council # 4336.
In his spare time, Jim enjoyed playing golf, bass fishing, searching for treasure with his metal detector, collecting rare coins.
For the past 40 years, Jim volunteered calling "BINGO" for the bingo games held at St. William’s Church and the Tewksbury Knights of Columbus.
Jim was the father of Sherry A. McGlinchey and her husband Gerald R. Gannon, of Tewksbury and the late James L. McGlinchey, Jr. He leaves six grandchildren, Brenda J. McGlinchey and his wife Taylor Ryan McGlinchey, Tyler R. Gannon, Cameron C. Gannon, Alysa A. Gannon, Kaytlin E. Gannon and Rhiannon Unger Connor and her husband Ryan Connor: two great grandchildren, Elise McGlinchey and Lilly Ryan. He was the brother of Ricky McGlinchey and his wife Eileen, of Everett and Peggy Flynn and her husband Tom, of Charlestown and the late William, John, Daniel and Charles McGlinchey and Helen McLaughlin, Catherine O’Neil, Dorohty Cooper and Mary Murnane. Jim leaves many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Calling hours are Thursday, August 24th, from 5- 7 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury. His funeral procession will begin on Friday, August 25th, at 9 a.m., followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main Street, Route 38, Tewksbury. Services will conclude with interment at St. Mary Cemetery, 90 River Road, Tewksbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. William’s Church, 1351 Main Street, Tewksbury, MA 01876.
