John J. Robinson, ED.D
TEWKSBURY John J. Robinson, ED.D, loving husband, father, grandfather and brother died at Lowell General Hospital on August, 16, 2023 following a long battle with complex cases of cancer. John was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania on December 25, 1939 to the late Charles P. and Margaret Gilhooley Robinson.
He received his life long love for learning in the Scranton public schools He was a graduate of Central High School, Class of 1957. While a young man, he played a lot of baseball in various amateur leagues in the Scranton area. He went on to receive his B. S., degree in mathematics education from the University of Scranton. Upon graduation he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. While at the University, he met the love of his life, Marie Kilpatrick of Carbondale Pennsylvania. The were married in 1963 and were married for 60 years last April.
Their loving union produced three children, Donna Marie Robinson (Thomas Needham Jr.) of Andover, Michael J. Robinson (Tracey) of W. Simsbury, CT, and James P. Robinson (Holly) of Lisbon, MD Those matches, made in heaven, gave John and Marie a total of nine grandchildren, Kaylee Marie, Raymond John, Mary Mae, Charles and Lilianna Robinson and Katherine and John Robinson, and William and Thomas Needham III. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Margaret (Peggy) Moran of Scranton, a brother, Charles (Chick) Robinson, Jr. of Malvern, PA, and a brother in law, Rev. John Kilpatrick of Scranton. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Following graduation from Scranton, John received his Masters degree from The Pennsylvania State University. He then took a teaching job as a math teacher for the Manhasset, New York public schools. After one year teaching, John was called to active duty and served in a Nike-Hercules Missile Battalion in the Cincinnati Air Defense Command.
After his discharge, John returned to Manhasset to resume his teaching career, and also to pursue his doctorate in education administration from Hofstra University where he received his degree in 1976.
He then took a position as the Assistant Principal for Ridgefield Connecticut High School. He, Marie, and the family, settled in Ridgefield where they raised their children and lived for forty-four years. While living in Ridgefield, he was able to continue his love for baseball by coaching various youth teams.
He was a member of the Ridgefield Golf Club where he was an avid golfer, not a good golfer but avid. In his golfing days he achieved three holes in one and won the President’s Club three times.
He was appointed Principal of New Milford High School, CT, where he served for 16 years. He often said it was the best job he ever had. He was proud to lead a very talented teaching staff and to help influence the lives of so many your people.

A Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at 11:30am at St. William's Church, 1351 Main Street, Tewksbury followed by military honors.
