Sheila Theresa O’Neil (née McKeown), 56, of Ventura, California, passed away on the afternoon of August 10th, 2023 in Ventura after a battle with cancer. A native Venturan, Sheila was born on August 8th, 1967 and was a graduate of St. Bonaventure High School. She earned Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in engineering from California State University, Northridge. She was a long-time employee of Amgen and a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt. Sheila married Steve O’Neil in 2000 and together they raised and competed their beloved Vizsla dogs. Entertaining family and friends during the holidays and traveling to new places brought her great joy. Compassionate and determined, Sheila astounded all those who knew her with the strength and courage with which she fought her final illness.
Sheila is preceded in death by her parents, George and Sarah McKeown, originally from Northern Ireland, and her brother, Stephen. In addition to her loving husband Steve, Sheila is survived by her sisters, Karen Setterfield and Moira Ikeda, her six nieces and nephews, and her cherished dog, Fiesta. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Humane Society or to the charity of one’s choice. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the doctors and staff of UCLA Medical Center and Community Memorial Hospital–Ventura.
Visitation, funeral service and reception will be held at BOYKO & REARDON TELEGRAPH ROAD MORTUARY & CREMATION, 15 Teloma Drive, Ventura on Friday, August 25th, 2023. Visitation will be from 9:00am to 11:00am. The service will be at 11:00am with Father Leon Hutton officiating, followed by a short reception. Burial will follow in Carpinteria District Cemetery, Carpinteria.
