Obituary

Shirley A. “Lee” (Toomey) Millett, 99, of Whitman passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on August 15th. Shirley was born in Springfield, MA, the daughter of John and Florence Toomey. She was the loving wife of the late Leon E. Millett Jr.

Shirley and Leon owned Millett Farms Dairy and later, Country Store in Whitman, which included homemade ice cream from generational Toomey family recipes. Their dairy farm supplied goods to the community including the Wakefield Toll House Restaurant.

Shirley and her husband enjoyed their retirement years in Clearwater, Florida, and Whitman, and she was recently Whitman’s oldest resident.

She was a gifted seamstress from a young age and worked at the well-known dress shop, May Perry of Brockton. Throughout the years her accomplishments include sewing, hand-sewn quilts, and many Irish-knit sweaters among many other skilled talents.

Shirley is survived by her four children, Linda O’Brien and her husband Kevin of West Falmouth, Susan Keohane and her late husband John, Joan Millett and her wife Eileen, John Millett, and his wife Lorraine all of Whitman, and her nine grandchildren, Heather LeVangie, Michael O’Brien, Elizabeth Doyle, Ryan Keohane, Eric Hard, Kate Hard, Craig Hard, Mark Millett, Danielle Millett and four great-grandchildren, Steven Brooks, Quinn Doyle, Noah Doyle, Zoey LeVangie, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Gordon, Jack, and Bill.

Family and friends are invited to attend her visiting hours on Thursday August 24 from 12:00-3:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. A service will follow at 3:00 PM.
