Barbara D (Whitton) Sullivan, 91 passed away peacefully at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Chelmsford Ma on Friday August 11, 2023.
She was born in Lowell on May 2, 1932, and was the daughter of the late Frederick H Whitton Sr and Eva Mae (Mountain) Whitton. She was raised in Chelmsford and Lowell and attended Bartlett Jr High School and graduated from Lowell High School, class of 1950.
Barbara worked at Merrimack Optical, volunteered at St John’s Hospital in Lowell and retired as a dispatcher from the Tewksbury Fire Department. After she retired, she moved to New Port Richey FL to enjoy the sun for a few years before moving back to Lowell to be closer to her family.
She loved spending time with her family. She cherished her relationships with family and friends: by spending time with them, always keeping in touch, and remembering important dates and occurrences. She had a wonderful memory.
She enjoyed ceramics, reading, playing the slots at the casino, and cribbage and whist at the Tewksbury Senior Center. Barbara enjoyed vacationing with her family on Cape Cod and at Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire.
Barbara is survived by her three loving sons Barry J Sullivan and his wife Kathleen (Kane) of Tewksbury, MA, Bruce D Sullivan and his wife Kathy (Landry) of Portsmouth, NH, and Brian T Sullivan and his wife Carolyn (Gay) of Windham, NH; Her 8 grandchildren Christine DiBenedetto and her husband Peter, Robert Sullivan, John Sullivan and his wife Ashley (St. Laurent), Kenna Iles and her husband David, Garett Sullivan, Devin Sullivan, Shannon Rivera and her husband Gabriel, and Connor Sullivan. She was the grandmother of the late Patrick S Sullivan.
She also leaves behind six great grandchildren, Aiden, AJ, Cameron, Mason, Olivia, and Lukas.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to her loving niece Joan Lane for all she did.
Barbara was predeceased by her siblings Mildred Zabierek, Frederick Whitton, and Bob Whitton.
Calling hours are Monday, August 21st from 4-7pm at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury. Her Funeral procession will begin on Tuesday, August 22nd, at 9am at the funeral home, followed by her Funeral mass at 10am at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main Street, Route 38, Tewksbury. Interment will follow at Tewksbury Cemetery, 172 East Street, Tewksbury.
