GORHAM- Donald “Don” Jerome Welsch, Sr. age 89, passed away on August 14, 2023, after a brief illness.
He was born in Portland, ME on August 7, 1934, a son to the late Philip and Delphine (Freeman) Welsch. After graduating from Deering High School, Don when into the Air Force. Upon his honorary discharge from the Air Force, he met and married Eleanor M Lawler.
He worked for AT&T for over 40 years.
He is predeceased by 2 brothers, Philip Jr and Earnest Welsch and 1 sister, Patricia “Lawler” Welsch.
Donald is survived by his wife, Eleanor of Gorham; children Teresa & Clayton Smelcer of Gorham; Donald Jr of Gorham; Lisa and Barry King of Gorham; Joseph & Marcie Welsch of South Portland; Ann Marie Smith of Gorham, 9 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday Aug. 23 at 10 AM at St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church of St. Anthony of Padua Parish, 299 Main St., Gorham.
