Richard “Richy” Allen Solomon of Brockton, Massachusetts, passed away after a lengthy illness at 83 years of age on August 7, 2023, at AdviniaCare Baypointe, surrounded by his family. Born on July 17, 1940, in Brockton, he was the son of the late Rhoderick R. Solomon and Alice M. (Banks) Solomon. He was educated in the Brockton school system and was a graduate of Brockton High School class of 1958.
Richy was a talented singer. He got his start as a member of the world renowned group The Fabulous Blends from Brockton. The group traveled the world, performing at many USO tours and recording several records. Their claim to fame was receiving an invitation to perform on the Ed Sullivan Show. Unfortunately, the lead singer became ill the night before and they were unable to perform. After the group disbanded, Richy went on to work for the Ainslie Corp for many years until his retirement. He started with Ainslie sweeping floors and worked his way up to one of the mechanical engineers. After his retirement from Ainslie, he continued to work and was known as “Mr. Fix It” for general home repairs.
Richy was an active member and director of the Massachusetts Tribe at Ponkapoag. He was also a member of AA and was a sponsor to many. He was a selfless man who put others before himself. Richy loved his family, especially his grandchildren and enjoyed family gatherings. Blessed with an infections sense of humor, he managed to put a smile on the face of everyone. He was always the entertainer!
He was married to Linda (Miranda) Jones. They had two daughters together and remained close friends after their divorce. He is survived by his biological children: Ann M. Ulett and husband Karl M. Ulett, Tina R. Carter and husband Robert L. Carter III and Richard Solomon Mendes. He is the acknowledged father figure to Renee, Ranae and James Hilton. In addition, he is survived by 8 grandchildren: Damon Solomon, Linda Solomon, Frantz Ulett, Tina Shields, Derrick Carter, Chantelle Carter, Cierra Carter and Joseph Collins as well as 15 great grandchildren. He was the brother of Gilbert Solomon (Deborah), Ren Green, Elizabeth Solomon (Michael Rice) and the late William Solomon. He also leaves many nieces and nephews as well as several friends and family members. He will be missed by his companion Angel Lunsford.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to Richard's celebration of life on Monday, August 21, from 1-3pm with a funeral service beginning at 3pm, in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123), Brockton.
